PLA 3D printing : Make your way

We are one of the leading companies offering PLA 3D printing services to the customers. The PLA or polyactid acid is a plastic material that uses cornstarch as one of the raw materials. Among all the other materials used for 3D printing, PLA is highly popular for use in additive manufacturing. When it comes to 3D printing, PLA is used with the help of fused deposition modeling or FDM.

FAQ

Q1. Is 3D Printed PLA Safe For Making Bakery Tools?

No, it's not, at all. Although PLA is a food-safe material in and of itself, the colorings applied to filament are not safe for bakery.

Q2. What Is The Best Way To Keep 3D Printed Parts Water Tight?

Here is some ways to keep your 3D printed parts water tight:-

  • Perfect extrusion. Check filament diameter with a micrometer and round in excess of 0.01mm. The extruder doesn't have to make any missed steps.
  • Multiple external shells. 2 shells, 2 top and down full layers prevent splashes going inside infill cells, 4 shells or more prevent pressurized jets
  • Perfect or fat adhesion between layers. To force it, you can reduce the step/mm in the z axis by 1–10%. This ensures layers will be sealed even if filament has a wide diameter tolerance. Excess plastic can be sandpapered. Scale model in z axis to match expected real height.
  • Add external coating. No matter how good a print is, there can be microscopic imperfections and every filament suffers in continued moist conditions. To prevent this coating like epoxy will seal holes for good.
Q3. Is The 3D Printing PLA Material Food Safe?

No, items produced on a filament deposition type printer are not food safe. This method leaves pores and internal cavities in the printed object, which are impossible to clean properly, so the object won't be food-safe.

Q4. Why Are 3D Printed Plastic Parts So Expensive?

3D printed plastic parts are expensive due to materials, equipment, labor, design complexity, scale, finishing & customization cost involved.
